What Tabber Collects

Tabber does not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email, or account details.

Each event is tagged with an anonymous random ID (UUID) generated on first run and stored locally on your device. This ID is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information. It exists only to distinguish one device's usage from another in aggregate statistics.

In addition to per-event data, the following device properties are sent alongside every analytics event and attributed to your anonymous device ID: Tabber version number, Windows operating system version, number of connected monitors, and whether your installation is a trial or licensed copy. None of these properties identify you personally.

IP Address and Geographic Data

To provide geographic analytics (country and region), Tabber retrieves your device's public IP address at startup using ipify.org, a third-party IP lookup service. The IP address is held in memory only for the duration of the session and is never written to disk or linked to your anonymous device ID.

The IP address is forwarded to Google Analytics solely to determine your geographic region. Google Analytics uses it to derive a country and region, then discards the raw IP address — it is not stored in analytics reports or raw data. Only the derived geographic region is retained.

By using Tabber with analytics enabled, you consent to this limited use of your IP address. You can disable analytics at any time in Tabber's Settings, which will stop all data collection including IP address retrieval.

Crash Reporting (Sentry)

If Tabber crashes, a crash report is automatically sent to Sentry. This report includes:

  • The error message and stack trace (code location of the crash)

  • Operating system version and Java runtime version

  • Tabber version number

  • Your anonymous device ID

Crash reports do not include window titles, screen content, file names, or any information about what you were doing in other applications.

Version & Integrity Check

Once per day, Tabber contacts spookyfish.com to verify your version is still supported. This request includes your Tabber version number. Like all internet connections, it also transmits your IP address to Spooky Group LLC's server, which is logged in standard server access logs and not used for any other purpose. This check is required for software integrity and cannot be disabled.

  • Window titles or names of applications you use

  • Screen content or screenshots

You can disable all analytics and crash reporting at any time:

  1. Open Tabber

  2. Click the Settings (⚙) button (top right)

  3. Uncheck "Share anonymous usage data and crash reports"

When disabled, no data is sent to Google Analytics or Sentry. Previously collected data is not deleted from Google's or Sentry's servers, but no new data will be sent.

Data Retention

  • Google Analytics: Event data is retained for 2 months; user data is retained for 14 months.

  • Sentry: Crash reports are retained for 90 days.

  • Local device: Your anonymous ID is stored in %APPDATA%\Tabber\settings.json and is removed when you uninstall Tabber.

Children's Privacy

Tabber does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The anonymous usage data collected contains no information that would identify a child.

Changes to This Policy

If data collection practices change in a future version, this policy will be updated and the effective date revised. Continued use of Tabber after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
